ORCNET Business Meeting
-----------------------


A business meeting of ORCNET, the Oregon IEEE
Consultants' Network, was held at Tillamook Restaurant
and Ice Creamery, 11485 S.W. Schools Ferry Rd.,
Beaverton, Oregon.

Quorum was attained, and members present were 
Patrick H. Barrett(chair), H. Joe Tabor (Treas./Sec.),
Keith Lofstrom (Webmaster), Ed Ritz, Duke Aguiar, and
Don Kozicki.

Visitors attending were Ed Perkins, Phillip Witham,
Dennis Frost, Dave Simmons, Dennis Ritola,Dan Olson,
and Steve Wetterling.

Guests were Tod Schiff and Lou Slamka.

Business Meeting Called to Order at approximately 
7:00 PM by Chair.

ORDER OF BUSINESS:
------------------
The entire meeting consisted of a wonderful presentation 
by Tod Schiff, Applications Engineer at Analog Devices,
on the subject of a 1 Volt, 100 Amp, multi-phase switching
power supply integrated circuit, a new development.  Tod
was accompanied by Lou Slamka, the sales rep who helped
put this presentation togehter.

The presentation covered such topics as how multi-phase
can address the issue of high inductor currents, with an
example that a low inductor  resistance of 1 milli-ohm
dissipates 10 watts at 100 Amps.  Also multiphase results
in better, reduced ripple.  Addressed in the presentation
were how MOSFET devices were actually driven to efficiently
create the power supply for the application.  

The presentation, aside from the technical aspects showed
how the Application Engineer interfaced with the Customer,
produced a block-diagram design simulation, and then
preseneted it to the design staff.  From all of this a
successful product emerged.
