Minutes of January 24, 2002 --------------------------- ORCNET Business Meeting ----------------------- A business meeting of ORCNET, the Oregon IEEE Consultants' Network, was held at Tillamook Restaurant and Ice Creamery, 11485 S.W. Schools Ferry Rd., Beaverton, Oregon. Quorum was attained, and members present were Patrick H. Barrett(chair), H. Joe Tabor (Treas./Sec.), Keith Lofstrom (Webmaster), Ed Ritz, Richard Westlake, Don Kozicki, Duke Aguiar, and Terry Lang. Visitors attending were Mitch Besser, Ilya Ratner, and Dave Simmons. Business Meeting Called to Order at 7:45 PM by Chair. ORDER OF BUSINESS: ------------------ It was informally brought up that our ORCNET website was down. CHAIR'S REPORT: --------------- Main IEEE wishes for ORCNET to re-affirm status as an organization. Business climate changes, not necessarily bad for consultats. TREASURER'S REPORT: ------------------- Will need to be sending ORCNET reports to IEEE Oregon. SECRETARY'S REPORT: ------------------- Activities still ahead, Destructive testing lab, ESD, and E&M lab. WEBMASTER'S REPORT: ------------------- Will try to meet with Oregon IEEE Webmaster to resolve issues, including Website down. OLD BUSINESS: ------------- Discuss logo. Joe Tabor has logo idea, Keith Lofstrom has logo idea. Keith's was presented by Email, Joe showed a sketch. NEW BUSINESS: ------------- (1) Discussion of what members were doing to stay current. Terry Lang is teaching two classes at OIT, lecture and lab on digital system design. Pat Barrett mentioned "ARM Vector MMU, RAM Controller, Digital Optical interface. Joe Tabor metnoined work, PE/FE classes, new Testing hardware (work), and new documentation package. Keith Lofstrom -- interesting study of evolutionary biology. Ilya Ratner -- Grad courses in cryptography and operating systems. (2) Advertising: Ideas Kicked around: * Trade shows. * Need Beep announcement. * Great idea to invite a REP at each meeting. (3) Future Activities: * Keith would like a group unix box build. (4) Show and Tell: Joe Tabor describes a "tornado transistor," a mechanical transistor, invented by a British physics professor, for educational and probably amusement purposes.
