Revised: 25 Mar 2000, 16:00 ------------------------------------------------------- 01. NEXT MTG: By: ORCNET - Oregon IEEE Consultants Network, When: March 23rd, eat @6:30, mtg @ 7:30pm. Subject: "Computerized testing of attention. How to objectively diagnose ADD/ADHD" Speaker: Andrew Greenberg, Vice Pres. for Research & Development, Universal Attention Disorders, Inc. Where: Carrows* Restaurant in Tigard. Coord: Bob deForest Chair: Patrick Barrett a/o 21 Mar 2000 Bob reports 3 reservations generated from our ad in the Oregonian, so it's working! ------------------------------------------------------- 02. ED RITZ'S TALK - TOPIC? The Beep Ad deadline is the 5th of the month. Topics for Ed presentation? a) Color CRT's, the physics of how they work; b) Surface Acoustic Waves; c) Basic overview of Quantum Mechanics. Joe Tabor votes for QM. Phil votes for SAW, then QM. George votes for QM. ------------------------------------------------------- 03. ED RITZ'S TALK - WHEN? Originally proposed for May; now some discussion of a setoff, so to insert a website-creation meeting. The April meeting, arranged by Phil, will be an Attorney discussing "Protection of Intellectual Property". Pat wants to set Ed's talk for May, schedule other topics thereafter. Impolite to leave Ed swinging... ------------------------------------------------------- 04. POSSIBLE ORCNET MEETING TOPIC? Phil has suggested we dedicate a meeting to "hands-on web site creation". Pat agrees that it's a good topic. Thoughts? ------------------------------------------------------- 05. SILICON VALLEY CNET Phil may have met with our counterparts in Silicon Valley on 03/21/2000. What did he learn? ------------------------------------------------------- 06. REGISTER ORCNET WITH THOMAS REGISTER Bob notes that small, free listings are available in the online Thomas Register. Suggests we check it out. See: http://www5.thomasregister.com/listingform.asp Perhaps ORCNET should be in there? Need volunteer to investigate & do it if looks good. Our members are of course free to individually register their own companies there, also. ------------------------------------------------------- 07. IEEE CNET DIRECTORY & WEBSITE LISTINGS FOR 2000 Chris Curry has promised to email us the apps by 3/18/2000. He has also asked if we will do the "group" deal this year. Prices are $65/ea if not. ------------------------------------------------------- 08. SEATTLE CNET Phil has contacted our Seattle Counterparts. All busy. No regular meetings. See memo. ------------------------------------------------------- 09. NORTHCON2000 - CONSULTANTS' CORNER The Northcon Committee isn't planning a Consultants' Corner. The Committee has offered us Consultants "table space" for $500/ea. Upper balcony location; not mainstream. Bring your own table. I am working with IEEE XCOMM to soften their position on this. ------------------------------------------------------- 10. NWMCIA - PRO ROW BOOTHS NWMCIA is 25, 26 April. Our ISA contact is John Harney at 503-720-7893. Phil wants a booth. I want a booth. Bob does not want a booth. ------------------------------------------------------- 11. NWMCIA - AD IN APRIL BEEP John and I are working with Allen Taylor on this. ------------------------------------------------------- 12. NWMCIA - ORCNET BOOTH - WORKERS We have the following volunteers: George will work one day Phil will probably be there both days. Pat will be there tbd days. Joe says he's "looking fwd to the opportunity". Bob says a "tentative yes". Steve Kaminsky will be there. The IEEE XCOMM has NOT decided if they will have a booth. They are presently listed as co-sharing a booth with Northcon and the EMA. I told them that "if ORCNET is there, they're there"... ------------------------------------------------------- 13. NWMCIA - ORCNET BOOTH - ACCOMODATIONS Phil has a red tablecloth, fold-up display (needs update). Phil will provide a handout: a summary list of our members. Can Joe bring his signage? What else do we need? ------------------------------------------------------- 14. NWMCIA - ORCNET SESSION Tentative title: "Finding the Engineering Talent you need". Chosen because our Northcon session drew more potential members than clients. Tentative scope: PPT presentation, round-table format. Nothing cast in stone yet. Ideas? Will you participate? Phil will sit on panel. Pat will sit on panel. Steve Kaminsky will sit on panel. ------------------------------------------------------- 15. IEEE XCOMM MTG of 13 MAR I attended; pitched NWMCIA. ------------------------------------------------------- 16. IEEE XCOMM MTG of 10 APR Will be Monday, 10 Mar 2000, PSU Blue Building. Phil may be on their agenda for a list-serv discussion. ------------------------------------------------------- 17. NW SCI EXPO Will occur on 31 March. Anyone wanna attend? See attached memo. ------------------------------------------------------- 18. ORCNET LIST-SERV Richard Westlake is not happy with it. Patrick J. Timlick has asked to be removed. Any other complaints? ------------------------------------------------------- 19. MANAGING ORCNET VIA THE WEB I have established a subdir & page at www.barrettengineering.com, for ORCNET documents for which I am responsible. It's only available to those who know where to look for it. My idea is to give ORCNET Officers a "snapshot" of the agenda as it develops between meetings. And to also make other items available on an as-needed basis... Now Phil suggests that we link the doc, or the page, to the ORCNET site. Or we could establish a similar page on that site, but then Phil would have to maintain it. This has implications we should discuss before we jump... ------------------------------------------------------- 20. ORCNET'S AD IN THE HIGH-TECH DIRECTORY We decided at the Feb mtg to de-emphasize this expense because no one reports a benefit. We set a tentative limit of $50/annum and charged Pat to handle the 2000 renewal negotiation. 00/03/22, 10:00 - Pat called Howard Rice @HTRG, 503-648-1102. In FY1999 ORCNET was listed in three places: Engineering, Consultants and Software Consultants. Howard commented that this was a "good deal" because each listing was worth $295, and we paid for only one listing. We were NOT listed under "Supportive Professional Organizations" (SPOs), although that category did exist. The Oregon IEEE was listed there. In FY2000 we can get a "free" listing in the SPOs category. Pat explored ways to get the best coverage within our FY2000 budget but Howard offered few alternatives. A single entry, no bold, no art, is $140. Decision: For FY2000, ORCNET will be listed only under SPOs, at no cost. Hoop: Pat must fax to Howard the text for the FY2000 SPOs category entry. (A copy of the text used in FY1999, pp350, with suitable revisions.) Howard can use the artwork from FY1999. The present "printing deadline" for all submissions and revisions is 28 Mar 2000. Fax Sent. ------------------------------------------------------- end of agenda -------------------------------------------------------
